Talking about his professional football career and great achievements as an athlete, Rakeem was ranked for the most consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass in FBS history. Cato led the nation in passing yards per game as a sophomore in 2012, completing 406 of 584 attempts for 4,201 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions where he was declared as ‘Conference USA MVP’ after an excellent season. He also received a nomination for the Sammy Baugh Award in 2013. 

Cato was one of the favorites to win the 2013 Maxwell Award and the Manning Award. Moreover, in the 2013 Military Bowl victory over Maryland, Cato was elected MVP. 

Furthermore, Cato made history on October 18, 2004. He broke the FBS record for most consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass, which was previously held by Russell Wilson.
