His cousin, Stan Ross, was starting his studio, Gold Star, in Hollywood. Ross offered Levine a job in his studio. While working for Ross, Levine learned everything there was to know about recording technologies and became an expert.

By the time Ross started his second studio, Levine was a professional. He worked as the commander in the Eddie Cochran project. Levine helped Cochran to produce the hits “ Summertime Blues” and “ Twenty Eight Rock”.

During his career, Levine, working with the late record producer Phillip Spector, created the most influential pop singles that ever existed.

He met Spector when Spector was just an eighteen-year-old kid. Spector had joined the Gold Star as a member of The Teddy Bears for the record “To Know Is To Love Him”.

The partnership of Levine and Spector was one of a kind that created great music. Levine collaborated with Spectore to give life to the World Of Sound. They also reunited in 1962 for “He’s a Rebel”. Like their other works, even this was a hit.

Levine and Spector were tied to each other throughout their life and had a great bond between them. Levine was even part of sessions produced by Spector, which included the “Death of Ladies” in 1977 and “ End of Century” in 1980. The dual again worked together in the “ Back to mono”.

Levine not only had a close relationship with Spector, he even was critical towards the Herb Alpert and Tijuana brass. Levine had previously worked with them for “ A Taste of Honey”, which even won an award in the Grammy.

Levine had such strong coordination with the Tijuana Brass that people considered him the unofficial eighth member of the group.

Because of his close relationship with the group, Alpert and Jerry Boss hired Levine to look over their new A&M Records studio.

Levine also worked with the Beach Boys in their albums which included the Pet Sounds.

Besides these, Levine also worked in various documentaries like The Wrecking Crew, 

Rock & Roll etc.

Awards

In 1966, Levine was awarded the Grammy for his hard work in “ A Taste of Honey”. He won the award in the Best Engineered Recording- Nonclassical category.

On the same day, “ A Taste of Honey” also won the Record of the Year award.
